Layered Smoothies

·

Layered smoothie trios! When you can't decide on one smoothie, have 3! I know, it’s still winter. But smoothies just feel so good to eat—their creamy texture and ease of digestion especially—so I still eat them in winter. Or I suppose 3. Shown here from bottom to top: banana/almond, cherry/apple and mango/cinnamon. All with a cherry on top! The three go so well together.

You will want a long spoon to dunk and grab each of the layers in each mouthful—trust me! And they’re so simple to make: all you need are a blender, a blender tamper and room in your fridge for the glasses as you make each layer. And also a sense of whimsy for these smoothie trios.

Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup filtered water, divided
  • 2 frozen bananas
  • 1/8 tsp almond extract
  • 1/3 cup apple juice
  • 1/3 cup frozen pitted cherries
  • 2 cups frozen mango
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Instructions

Step 1

Make the banana/almond layer. To a high-speed blender, add 1/3 cup filtered water, the bananas and the almond extract. Use a tamper to mix thoroughly. Spoon into one glass or two as the bottom layer. Put glass(es) into the fridge to keep cold as you make the next layers. Rinse your blender.

Step 2

Make the cherry/apple layer. Add the apple juice and frozen cherries to your blender. Use the tamper to mix thoroughly. Add as the next layer in your glass(es) and return to the fridge to keep cold as you make the final layer. Rinse your blender.

Step 3

Make the mango/cinnamon layer. Add the final 1/3 cup water, the mango and the cinnamon to the blender. Use the tamper to mix thoroughly. Add as top layer in the glass(es), top with a frozen cherry and enjoy! Smoothies are best consumed immediately to retain nutrients.
